Denali National Park- Scroll forward with the 'Next' button
Denali National Park is immense, with one main road that crosses over 50 miles into the heart of the
rugged wilderness. You are allowed to drive the first 17 miles of the park in a private vehicle.
From there, you must either walk or catch the shuttle bus. The method does limit the traffic in the
park, but the shuttle bus is nothing short of frustrating for the perfect animal photos. I had heard
about the Professional Photographer`s Permit, available to a limited number of applicants. To
qualify, you must prove that you make a living from the photos, including research photos for
professional artists. Once qualified, you are selected or denied on a lottery basis. We not only
drew, but got the prime time of year, September! We were allowed to travel the park in our own
vehicle, to the dismay of those jammed on the bus. The maximum vehicle length was to be 20`, and I
found a motorhome just that size. For two weeks, we were able to eat and sleep in complete comfort,
while photographing some of the most spectacular scenery and wildlife ever!
